In this 2-session mini-course, we will set up a bunch of games that have mathematical strategies and move among them at will as we engage in math conversations about them. Games will include Blokus, Pentominoes, Set, Backgammon, Polydrons (platonic solids), Shapes Up, and more. Students will not be required to engage in competition – that is optional, and they can team up against Rodi if desired.

Local math teachers in any grade can attend monthly meetings to explore rich math problems, rediscover the joy in learning math, and network with fellow teachers and mathematicians. This workshop is offered FREE to Austin area teachers as outreach of the Mathematics Department, The University of Texas at Austin. We provide lunch, materials, and parking validation. Participants earn CPE hours for this workshop.

Mentoring students grades 3-8 on competition maths such as Math Field Day, MathCounts, AMC, and more
Location: San Francisco State University (click for a Google Map)
Grade levels: Camps will be open to rising 3rd-6th graders. (This means students who will be in 3rd-6th grade in Fall 2023.)
Dates: We will have three week-long sessions:
June 26-30
July 10–14
July 24–28
Students may only attend one session.
Time: 9am to 3pm daily, plus optional Extended Care from 8am to 9am and 3pm to 6pm
Cost: $500 per week-long camp, plus $10 per day for optional morning Extended Care and $30 per day for optional afternoon Extended Care
